29th May 2020 Coronavirus update

Dear Parents and Carers
We hope that you are keeping safe and well.
Thank you all for responding to our recent parent survey in relation to reopening.
In regards to pupils returning to school, we would like to update you that we are continuing to gather information and to complete risk assessments, so that when possible we can reopen safely.
This will be later than the 1st of June.
We take the safety of our pupils and staff extremely seriously and wish to reassure you we will only re-open when we are fully confident that it is safe to do so.

Family Fund Update

The current Covid pandemic has made life much harder for many families, not only in terms of managing your child’s needs during the lockdown period, but also financially.

I am sure that many of you will be aware of the charity 'Family Fund', who provide help to families raising a child with special educational needs and/or a disability. They provide grants for a range of items including short breaks and days out, clothing, computers and tablets, kitchen appliances and sensory toys.

The organisation has put extra measures in place to ensure they can continue to support families throughout this crisis, and are now able to accept applications once every nine months where previously it was twelve, as long as your family remains eligible.

For those families who are already using the fund, I know that this change will be welcomed. For any families who are unsure whether they are eligible to apply I would encourage you to click on this link to their website, where all the relevant information can be found:

Letter Regarding School Phased Reopening 21st May 2020

The school currently remains closed to protect the health and safety of our vulnerable community, with the deep clean still taking place.

Teachers have been adding work and videos to Google Classroom for you to look at. Teachers are also setting fun activities that you can do at home with your child on Evidence for Learning. Please continue to add your own photos and videos - it is great to see our pupils looking well and having fun!

We appreciate these are difficult times and if your financial situation has changed as a result of the pandemic you may be eligible to apply for a school meal voucher to use at a supermarket of your choosing - please see the information below.  All pupils who currently have free school meals will automatically receive a voucher. If you have any problems accessing these please contact Helen Standen, Family Support.

During our school closure you will still be able to make contact with the school via the office at:

Welcome from the Head Teacher:

“Building the future by guiding the present”

As your Headteacher, it gives me great pleasure, on behalf of the governors, staff and students to welcome you to Lime Academy Forest Approach.

We pride ourselves on our broad and balanced curriculum where the teaching of life and social skills are our strength as well as inspiring high academic achievement. Our aim is for our students to achieve their full potential in order to equip them to become as independent as possible and ready for their next journey in life.

“The very welcoming environment is calm and purposeful, and pupils show delight as they participate in activities” Ofsted report 19-20 June 2018.

Our vision continues to maintain that our students have a voice regarding their own learning journeys. We have already implemented lots of changes by adapting our broad curriculum to ensure the student’s learning is fun and motivating offering lots of different opportunities.

We recognise each child is unique. Through our individual approach to teaching and learning and with small classes, children settle quickly and easily at any age of entry. We nurture each child’s unique talents and skills so that they can achieve their full potential within a stimulating, challenging and dynamic learning environment.

At Lime Academy Forest Approach, we offer extra-curricular activities, provisions and therapies including: breakfast and lunchtime clubs, bikeability, rebound, animal-assisted and music therapy as well as gardening and singing clubs.

Our staff are dedicated and work seamlessly together. They work hard to ensure the students are happy, safe and are able to access all opportunities across the school. This was reflected in our recent Ofsted report where 100 percent was achieved from our staff questionnaire.

We look forward to meeting you.

Mary Bickmore
